Premium Lens Implants

Cataract surgery patients now have a solution to see at multiple distances after cataract surgery with premium lens implants.

These implanst come in various forms and it is very important to consult your ophthalmologist regarding what implant may work best for you. The current options include:

Please see the information below to get more information regarding our lens implant options.

Multifocal IOL

In an effort to reduce dependence on glasses after surgery, many patients choose to have a multifocal lens inserted to replace the cataract affected lens. These lenses are designed to enable patients to see better at both near and far without the aid of glasses. Please click on the links below to obtain more information regarding Multifocal IOL implants. The doctors and the staff at Texas Eye Institute strive to provide the very latest technology in cataract surgery. Some patients may feel comfortable with a traditional monofocal lens after cataract surgery, however; others may want more freedom from glasses. These multifocal lenses provide a chance to reduce dependence on glasses.

Restor Lens
AcrySof ReSTOR®

Restor Lens

FDA Clinical Trials Show 80% of Patients are Spectacle FREE After Surgery.

The AcrySof ReSTOR® lens is a foldable IOL that represents breakthrough technology because of its unique, patented optic design, which allows patients to experience the highest level of freedom from glasses ever achieved in IOL clinical trials.

The AcrySof ReSTOR® IOL uses a combination of three complementary technologies: apodization, diffraction and refraction to allow patients to experience a full range of high-quality vision without the need for reading glasses or bifocals. This range of vision without glasses is achieved through the optical properties of the IOL.

The benefit for patients is a high level of spectacle freedom. Alcon has patented the application of apodization technology to an IOL, making the AcrySof ReSTOR® lens the first and only apodized diffractive IOL.

During U.S. clinical trials, the results with ReSTOR® were remarkable:

  1. 80% of patients reported that after lens implant surgery with ReSTOR® lenses, they no longer needed glasses or contact lenses to see clearly at all distances.
  2. 94% said they could drive and read the paper without contacts or glasses.
  3. Nearly 94% were so satisfied that they would have the procedure again.

Accommodating IOL – Crystalens®

How Does the Crystalens® IOL Work?

Crystalens®
Crystalens®

After the age of 40 people will often start to experience serious trouble reading as the eye’s natural lens starts to harden. Prior to the age of 40 it is not uncommon that many people often experience excellent vision and are typically confused as to what is happening with their eyes. Because their vision may have been perfect they have never consulted an ophthalmologist as to what is naturally occurring. This inability to see at close distances or difficulty for the muscles in the eye to auto-focus can be very discouraging. This is known as loss of accommodation, or presbyopia. The Crystalens® lens was researched and developed specifically to help correct the aging vision condition and was engineered with a hinge design that allows the optic to move as your focus on an image changes. The Crystalens® procedure is performed in a surgery center environment. After a small incision is made at the edge of the cornea, the natural lens is removed with phaecoemulsification and the Crystalens® is implanted. Crystalens® can usually be implanted in less than 15 minutes.

The recovery period is usually short. Most patients are able to pursue normal activities almost immediately after surgery. Discuss with your doctor beforehand what to expect before, during, and after the procedure as well as eye drops and postoperative office visits.

If you are like most patients who have the Crystalens®, you can expect to enjoy the “luxury of sight” near, far, and everywhere in between and see everything more clearly. Your focus will be sharper than it has been in years, and you can expect to see improvements over time.

Crystalens® FDA Clinical Trial Information

  • 98.4% of patients implanted with Crystalens® in both eyes could pass a driver’s test without glasses
  • 100% could see intermediate (24″ to 30″) without glasses, the distance for most of life’s activities
  • 98.4% could see well enough to read the newspaper and the phone book without glasses.
  • Some patients did require glasses for some tasks after implantation of the Crystalens®
  • Significantly more patients implanted with a Crystalens® (88.4%) could see better at all distances then patients implanted with a standard IOL (35.9%)

Clinical Study Data for the Acrysof IQ Toric® IOL:

  • 94% of patients acheived uncorrected distance of 20/40 or better
  • Improved contrast sensitivity in low-light situations
  • significant reducton in both spherical and total high order abberations
