R. Edwin Pitts, MD, has been in private practice with Texas Eye Institute for more than 25 years. He performed his undergraduate work at the University of Texas at Austin where he was an Honors Graduate. Dr. Pitts was Chief Resident during his four-year residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania. He was also a Heed Fellow in corneal surgery at the University of Iowa Hospital. Dr. Pitts is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He is a multiple past Chairman of Ophthalmology at both Memorial Hermann Southwest and Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospitals. In addition, he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Heed Society, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Ophthalmolgical Association Houston Ophthalmological Society and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Pitts and his staff are always available for consultation. He has therapeutic optometrist and Professor at University of Houston, Dr. Seema Nanda, working with him.Dr. Pitts was one of the first surgeons to do lasik vision correction surgery in Houston. He has performed over 12, 000 refractive operations. With his extra training in corneal and refractive surgery, he is well equipped to handle all refractive operations in even the most complex lasik procedures. In addition to refractive surgery, Dr. Pitts performs cataract surgery and corneal transplants.
